Tackling Your Interior Design Phobias

Episode 1: Color “Go Bold When You Go Home”

Plethora of Thoughts Wall Art 2.jpg

We all have a safe space. A comfort zone, if you will. I’m talking about one color in particular, not naming any names...*cough, cough GREIGE*. Together, let’s take down those phobias and bust out of those comfort zones. Your home will thank you for it.

Now, I am not saying that those colors don’t have their place, on the contrary, airy white rooms are BEAUTIFUL. If you love white and grey, analogous color schemes, then this article isn’t for you. You love your white and that’s alright!

I am calling out to all the people who LOVE color but are afraid to use it. To those who have that grey sofa when they wanted the velvet emerald green. To those who bought the beige dining chairs when you wanted the royal blue. That’s right, I’m talking to you. So lets talk through  tips and tricks to help you feel confident while you bring color to your home.

  • “I don’t know how to start incorporating color or what color to use”.  If you don’t know where to start, look in your closet.  What color do you see the most? I see greens and blues in mine. You naturally gravitate to  those colors and you will continue to do so. Before you go out and buy a navy sectional, start by buying a small accessory in a color you love and incorporate it into your space ( sculpture, pillows, art). Another idea is to print out a large swatch of a paint color you like and tape it to your wall. If you still love it after looking at it for 2 weeks, then go for it. Channeling Marie Kondo, if it sparks joy, it should be in your home. Once you are comfortable with your main color, you can incorporate others using the same system.

  • “I don’t want to spend money on something I may not like”. I get it, we all have been there. The top you ordered  online DOES NOT look like the photo. Adding color to your home doesn’t always have to be with big ticket items, although I love a bright blue sectional. Large scale art and accent chairs  are a good way to brighten up a space with a smaller price tag. When it comes to furnishings, Homenclature has so many things in store that you are able to touch, kick and test. Unlike our competition, we make it a point to stock our store with unique items in all different colors and styles, ready for  you to take home immediately.

  • “I just bought a new ....” Maybe you just bought a grey sofa before you realized that you need color. Draperies, paint and wallpaper are your friends. Use your walls. Use your windows. Sample cans of paint are very inexpensive and you can test the color on your wall. Always do this! The lighting in your home can completely change a color. Check out that wallpaper book for a day look at them in your home. Find one you LOVE not just something  that is “okay”.

In my book, everything in your home should be something you love, something that brings you joy or a  sense of peace. It is a reflection of ourselves. Nate Berkus said it best when he said, “Your home should tell the story of who you are and be a collection of what you love.” If color is something you love, then make sure it is in your home. Don’t be afraid to go bold. Remember, all of us here at Homenclature are here to help you! You can have the home you’ve always wanted. Let’s do it together.
